In "Standing Mother and Child" (1978) upward movement is reinforced by repetition of vertical lines in the pleat of the mother's dress, embrace of the mother's arms, and the small long back of the child. The mother stands upright with a simple dignity, but it is the melding of the child's body into hers and the yielding expression on her face that make the work emanate a tender relationship." --Martha Kearns, Sculpture (magazine) vol. 18 no. 2 (1999). p.35
